A Manchester cosmetics and fragrances wholesaler and retailer has increased the area available for storage by installing new mezzanine flooring at its central warehouse.
Since being founded in 1990, Rainbow Cosmetics have gone from strength to strength and soon outgrew their original premises, having to rent warehouse storage facilities in a nearby commercial park.
Because of the central location of the original premises, it was impossible to extend the existing building and plans were drawn up, utilising the height of the original warehouse, to include an area of mezzanine floor at the same level as existing first floor offices.
Measuring 11.5 metres wide and extending 50 metres across the warehouse floor area, the mezzanine flooring has substantially increased the available storage space and proved to be much more cost-efficient than renting alternative premises, as well as keeping all parts of the operation under the same roof.
Both safety considerations and convenience were built into the design, with a handrail running around the perimeter of the mezzanine floor and a suspended ceiling to maximise the light. Three loading gates for lorry access to the warehouse formed part of the alterations.
Today Rainbow Cosmetics are wholesale suppliers to a large number of independent retailers and multiple chain stores. Offering a range of beauty, hair care and skin products as well as a wide variety of fragrances, Rainbow Cosmetics carry a number of very famous top-end fashion names among their lines and now have a business worth £45m.
